From Nikola Tesla to Steve Jobs, no great mind ever existed without a touch of madness. The line between perseverance and obsession can be perilously thin—especially in the business world, where the stakes are high and the risks are palpable. Reza Mokhtarian of Sky Venture Group, which subsumes Kaizen Global is no exception to this trend of great entrepreneurial minds: He is prone to emotional outbursts. He rebels against the “normal”rules. He works tireless hours, burning the candle at both ends and expecting no less of those in his organization.
Sounds a bit…mad, right?
But the results speak for themselves. In less than a year, Kaizen Global—Reza Mokhtarian’s most recent brain child—has clocked in as the fastest growing Forex based network marketing company worldwide. With thousands of young entrepreneurs clamoring to join his ranks he has quickly become the modern embodiment of innovation, hard work, and corporate legacy.
But who isReza Mokhtarian—the man behind Sky Venture Group, a Toronto based investment management firm which holds a basket of online, and offline multi-million dollar ventures, including his recent vision Kaizen Global?
There is a saying in Tibetan: “Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.”This is where Reza Mokhtarian’s story begins—in the throes of that most tragic war that tore his native Iran apart. Reflecting on this time, he writes:
I was born in blood. The blood of the Kurdish and Arab uprisings. The wartime blood, spilled in the streets and baked brown in the fiery sun. I grew up in a country where women couldn’t choose what to wear, where our personal liberties were stolen from us, and where the pettiest crimes resulted in public lashings that left deep, bloody welts on our backs.
Recent history furnishes us with many examples of “self-made”millionaires—individuals born into modest circumstances, who worked hard for everything they have. But few have endured the social and economic traumas faced by Reza Mokhtarian’s family. In vivid detail, his book recounts their seven-day journey across the Great Salt Desert to Pakistan, a country that opened its borders to refugees fleeing the Persian Gulf War:
“In Dasht-e Loot—‘the emptiness desert,’as the Persians call it—every breath is superheated, sand-filled air. Fine white ash blows across the road and piles up on everything. There is no water here. Nothing grows. Only the occasional rock formation just from the earth like an exposed bone.”
Narrowly escaping death on several occasions, his family subsisted in a refugee camp for two years before immigrating to Canada in 1990. Little could prepare them for the horrors they would endure during this time. Yet, despite an abysmal existence, Reza Mokhtarian managed to find the one semblance of positivity in his circumstances:
“Ironically, it was as a slum child that I learned the most valuable lesson about wealth: Being rich is having money. Being wealthy is having a family.”
This family philosophy has come to drive the entire Kaizen Global ethos. “A company should be like a family,”he says, “and like a family, its ultimate purpose is to protect and improve the lives of its members.”
Mentor Tips and Periscope
Nowhere is this philosophy more aptly applied than in the domain of mentorship.
Among millennials, there is a collective shout to employers to help develop them, mentor them, and give them opportunities to lead. Reza Mokhtarian was one of the first of his generation to heed this calling. Thus was born “Mentor Tips,”an online program that provided practical education in business mastery and currency trading.
Founded in 2014, Mentor Tips was the first company to successfully bridge the gap between live trading sessions and Forex training—all at an affordable monthly rate of $97. Prior to the creation of Mentor Tips, those interested in learning about Forex were forced to pay exorbitant enrolment fees. Now, for the first time ever, millennials could access a powerful money-making tool and the knowledge to wield it.
By utilizing a new social networking service called Periscope TV—a live video streaming app for Android and iOS—Reza Mokhtarian quickly amassed a following of over a million subscribers worldwide. By the end of 2015, he had become the #1 trending celebrity on Periscope, superseding professional athletes, Grammy Award-winning musicians, and even presidential candidates. Mentor Tips, more than any previous venture, is what catapulted him to social media stardom.
Kaizen Global—Reza Mokhtarian’s crowning achievement to date—builds upon the original Mentor Tips platform with the inclusion of network marketing and a whole new catalogue of products. Providing a one-shop-stop experience for students, Kaizen Global carries forward the original Mentor Tips mandate of combining live trading sessions with full-length courses in Forex and Business Mastery at an affordable monthly rate.
With respect to mentorship, Kaizen Global ushers in a new era for individual development—one that utilizes multiple experts in group settings. The benefit of such an approach is the alignment of skills. Mentees are able to align with mentors, Reza Mokhtarian included, who excel in the areas in which they are looking to improve.
Really, that’s what Kaizen Global is all about. Kaizen is a Japanese word meaning “continual improvement”through synergy. Unlike hierarchical corporate structures where each member has a distinct role, Reza Mokhtarian’s companies—from Kaizen Global to Direct Forex Signals to Sky Venture Group—have a unique lateral structure, in which staff are encouraged to participate in all aspects of business. The result is a fully immersive work environment that provides individuals with opportunities to expand and develop their skills.
The essence of Reza Mokhtarian, I think, is that his personality is integral to his way of doing business. The passion, intensity, and extreme emotionalism he brings to everyday life are things he also pours into the services and products he creates. His quick temper and relentless focus are part and parcel of his perfectionism. This, more than anything, is what makes him a mentor (and entrepreneur) of the highest caliber.
