….first let’s head on to the basic.
Chess Tips for Beginners
For chess beginners, there are some chess terms you’ll encounter that may sounds confusing. Understanding the few but most important chess term is one of the basic knowledge a chess beginners must acquire. Chess terms that you should also use during the game:
Check is when your opponent is trying to attack your king. The opponent must say, “check”, to notify you that your king is being attack. It is an alarm that is telling you to move your king to a much safer place. You’ll also say check if you are going to attack your opponents’s king.
If your king is being attack, you only have three options:
Moving your king in a safer place.
Block the way your opponent’s piece that is attacking you.
Take your opponents piece that is attacking you.
Else, if no other option you are likely to be….
Where you can no longer move your king and no options at all then you are “checkmate”. It is the end of the game and you lose! This is the goal of the game, to capture the opponents king.
White king is checkmate by the black queen. And there is no possible way to move.
A “stalemate” is when your king is safe from direct attack but you don’t have any choice of moves. No more pieces left to protect your king, and you cannot even move elsewhere, the king is not check but rather called a “stalemate”. In this case no one wins the game, it’s a tie.
Black king is not directly attacked by the white rook and cannot be captured. It is not a check nor checkmate rather called stalemate.
It is when moving the king and the rook at the same time. It is only done once by each player during the game. The castling can only be done when…
Both the king and rook has not been moved during the game.
There should be no other pieces in between the king and the rook.
The king is safe, that cannot be attack by the opponent.
If you are sure you are safe to castle then move your king two spaces toward the rook and the rook should stay behind the back of the king. Say for instance you’ve decided to castle your king to the rook that is sitting on the left side corner of the table, let your king sit on the second space from where he came from. Then, your rook will stay at the back of your king. This can also be done the same way on the other side.
